Your mudroom should make coming home easier, not give you another mess to clean up.
Shoes by the door. Jackets over chairs. Backpacks on the floor. A pile of things that need to go somewhere but never seem to have a good place.
Oregonized Closets designs and installs custom mudroom storage for homeowners in Bend and throughout Central Oregon. Every system is built around your space, what your household brings through the door, and how you actually use it. No standard storage packages. No franchise hand-offs.
The mudroom is where a lot of your day starts and ends. Without the right storage, even a large one becomes a dumping ground. A row of hooks holds jackets but doesn't solve the shoe problem. A bench gives you somewhere to sit, but without storage underneath, boots still end up across the floor. Deep cabinets hide clutter, but not if you have to dig through everything to find a pair of gloves.
And not every home has a room labeled "mudroom." Sometimes the space doing that job is a laundry room, a garage entry, or a small area inside the back door. A mudroom doesn't have to be large to be useful. What matters is how the space is organized.
Keep the walkway clear.
People need room to move through, especially when everyone comes home at once. Benches, cabinets and shelving should make the entry easier to use, not crowd the path between doors.
Make Better Use of the Space Around Your Entryway
USE EVERY INCH
Use the wall space.
A wall that holds a few hooks may have room for hanging storage, cubbies, shelving, and cabinets. Building upward frees up floor space without taking over the room.
Plan around everyday routines.
What you grab every morning should be easy to reach. Backpacks, shoes, jackets, and keys shouldn't require opening three cabinets or moving something else first.
Give wet gear room to dry.
Open storage makes sense for boots and jackets that come home with snow or mud on them. Enclosed cabinets work better for things you want put away.
Work around the room.
Doors, windows, outlets, light switches, and appliances all affect what can fit. Grant measures the space and designs around those details instead of forcing a standard unit into the room.
What Your Mudroom Can Include
A PLACE FOR EVERYTHING
Built-in benches. A place to sit while pulling on boots, with storage underneath if the layout allows.
Shoe and boot storage. Dedicated shelves and open compartments keep footwear off the floor, including tall boots that don't fit a standard shelf.
Coat hooks and hanging storage. Jackets, raincoats, backpacks, and bags at heights that work for the people using them, including younger kids.
Individual cubbies. Each family member gets a designated spot, so belongings don't get mixed together and everyone has a place to put things back.
Cabinets and enclosed storage. Seasonal accessories, household supplies, and less-used items stay organized and out of sight.
Drawers and small compartments. Gloves, hats, sunglasses, and keys get a defined place instead of collecting on every surface.
Adjustable shelving. Footwear, bags, and baskets change through the year. Adjustable shelves change with them.
Overhead storage. Upper cabinets and shelves put wall space to work for things you don't need every day.
Not every mudroom needs all of these. A household with three kids and a dog needs something different than a couple looking for a better place for coats and boots. We figure out what needs a home before deciding what goes where.
Family mudrooms. When several people share one entrance, individual cubbies, hooks, and shoe storage help everyone keep track of their own things.
Garage entryways. The door from the garage is often the main family entrance. A bench, coat storage, and shoe shelving make that transition easier without blocking the walkway. Planning the garage side too? See Garage Storage Systems.
Laundry and mudroom combinations. When the two share a room, the design has to work around the washer, dryer, and floor space. Storage for coats, shoes, and bags goes in without getting in the way of laundry. More on that room on our Laundry Room Cabinets page.
Small entryways. A narrow wall or compact entry may not fit a full bench and cabinet system. A combination of hooks, shallow shelving, and well-placed storage can do the job instead.
Pet supplies. Leashes, harnesses, and towels in a dedicated spot near the door, where you actually need them.
Mudroom Storage for the Way You Come and Go
BUILT FOR YOUR ROUTINE
Oregonized Closets is locally owned and independent, not a national franchise. Grant and Chyenne McDonald are Oregon natives raising their family here. When you call, you work with Grant.
He looks at where shoes collect, where bags get dropped, and which things need to stay near the door. He measures the space, designs the layout, and comes back to install it. You won't explain your household to a salesperson and hope the notes make it to an installation crew. The person who learns how your entry gets used is the person building it.
Every system is built from wood sourced in Western Oregon and backed by a lifetime warranty. It's not a temporary organizer. It's built-in storage that stays with your house through years of busy mornings and muddy boots.

Our Mudroom Design Process
SIMPLE FROM START TO FINISH
Designing a mudroom that works for your home shouldn't be complicated.
Step 1: Start with a conversation
Tell Grant what's frustrating about your entry. Maybe everyone's shoes end up in front of the door. Maybe backpacks have nowhere to hang. Maybe you have plenty of square footage and very little useful storage. You don't need to know what the finished system looks like. That's his job.
Building or remodeling? We can start designing from your house plans before construction is finished.
Step 2: Measure and design
Grant measures the space, accounting for doors, windows, fixtures, and the room you need to move through it. You'll see the plan before installation begins.
Step 3: Professional installation
Grant installs the system he designed. Most installs take a single day, depending on the size and complexity of the project.
Step 4: Give everything a place
Shoes go on their shelves. Jackets and backpacks have hooks. Gloves and hats stop disappearing into piles. When everyone comes home, putting things away isn't another project.
Central Oregon has a way of coming home with you.
Dusty hiking shoes in the summer. Muddy boots in the spring. Snow-covered jackets after a day at Mt. Bachelor. Bike helmets, ski gloves, dog leashes, and packs that need somewhere to go between weekends. Add school bags and work gear, and a mudroom here has to handle a lot more than a few coats.
For some families, that means open cubbies where kids drop backpacks and hang jackets. For others, it's dedicated space for outdoor gear and seasonal clothing, with everyday equipment easy to grab and the rest stored up high until its season comes around.
Whether you're building new, remodeling an existing mudroom, or trying to make a busy garage entry more useful, Grant designs around what your household actually brings through the door.
